The inspiration for this business is rooted in my upbringing and life experience. I grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina and learned to cook at a young age. Our cuisine consisted mainly of Italian and Spanish influences. In Argentina, many fruits and vegetables were only available during certain parts of the year, and so we learned to value the preparation of in-season local produce. Foods like artichokes, asparagus and tomatoes were our delicacies and were prepared with the utmost care.
Bara’s Almond Paté is a combination of my food history and my present interest in a conscious way of living. It is both delicious and healthy. I combined Mediterranean flavors with the health benefits of natural locally sourced ingredients in a delightful ready to eat vegan paté. I hope you enjoy this unique and satisfying product!
And how did I come up with the name Bara, you ask? Bara comes from my daughters’ names, Bali and Hara.
I was influenced by my mother who was always present in the kitchen cooking, and by my Italian grandmother from whom I learned how to make paté. When my parents passed away leaving my six siblings and me, we called on our culinary background and started a pizza business to support ourselves.
When we moved to Patagonia and lived off the land, my culinary skills took a creative turn. For instance, when we had a surplus of carrots and that was all we had, I needed to figure out how to create interesting things using carrots. Carrot mayonnaise, made with surplus carrots and raw ingredients from our farm, became a hit. From this experience, I learned to be creative with whatever was available and nutritious. Now in California, I am continuing to create healthy foods from local ingredients.
